Snow Lake is a high-altitude glacial expanse, measuring over 16 kilometers in width, situated at the confluence of the Biafo and Hispar glaciers. The trek to Snow Lake and Hispar La commences from Skardu-Askoli, which is positioned on the right bank of the Biafo Glacier. The Biafo Glacier extends 68 kilometers within the Karakoram Range and lies to the south of the Baltoro Glacier, leading towards the Hispar Glacier. This Biafo Hisper trek is demanding and suited for experienced trekkers, as it involves traversing peaks ranging from 5,500 to 7,300 meters in elevation.

The renowned Snow Lake is located approximately 500 meters beyond the Hispar La pass, making it an ideal destination for skiers and climbers of smaller peaks. Upon crossing the Hispar La at an elevation of 5,151 meters, trekkers are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the mountains surrounding the Hispar Glacier. The journey continues through summer pastures until reaching Hisper village, where we will meet vehicles to transport us to Karimabad Valley.

Trek Biafo Hisper Snow Lake with Karakorum Expeditions Overview

We possess an in-depth understanding of the risks associated with trekking to Biafo, Hisper, and Snow Lake, and we remain vigilant to prevent our team from encountering hazardous ice patches or falling into deep crevasses.

Situated within the Karakorum mountain range, the Biafo Glacier, measuring 63 kilometers in length, and the Hisper Glacier, spanning 49 kilometers, are recognized as some of the most perilous glaciers globally. The trekking route traverses twelve peaks that rise above 7,000 meters. The confluence of these two glaciers occurs at the Hisper La pass, which stands at an elevation of 5,151 meters above sea level.

Together, these glaciers extend for a total of 126 kilometers, making them the longest outside the Polar Regions. The trek commences in the Askoli region of Baltistan and concludes in the Hunza Valley. This vast expanse of ice and rock connects the Nagar Valley to the west with Askoli, often referred to as “Little Tibet,” to the east.
